Industry Bodies


ASWGA works with the following industry bodies:

Australian Wool Innovation Ltd (AWI)

AWI is a not-for-profit company owned by more than 24,000 Australian wool growers. AWI invests in research, development, innovation and marketing along the global supply chain for Australian wool. ASWGA engages in regular discussion with AWI to influence issues concerning research and marketing.

Australian Wool Testing Authority (AWTA)

AWTA Raw Wool provides independent and objective wool certification services. AWTA Raw Wool's major services are sampling, testing and certifying the yield, fibre diameter, vegetable matter content, staple length and staple strength of greasy wool before it is sold. ASWGA works with AWTA to improve the testing and sampling of superfine wool and collates production statistics for processing members.

 Australian Wool Exchange Ltd (AWEX)

AWEX manages and administers wool trading in Australia and produces market reports that provide information that is used as the benchmark on the Australian Wool Market around the world.  AWEX also manages certifications for Australian wool classers. ASWGA regularly work with AWEX on issues such as ASF types, market reporting, the Woolclassers Code of Practice, certifications and woolpack standards.

Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO)

ASWGA will work with CSIRO to initiate and have input into research, including tensile strength and it’s importance in later stage processing. ASWGA has also had involvement, together with Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in a program in China to improve the handling and use of superfine wool.

International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO)

IWTO is the recognised global authority for standards in the wool textile industry. ASWGA regularly works with IWTO to further communication to and from the world’s processors of superfine wool on issues such as testing, production trends, marketing, stock holding and market outlook.

WoolProducers Australia

WoolProducers Australia is the national body for the overall wool growing industry in Australia. It has a strong working relationship with ASWGA and represents it for WIA.

Austrade

Austrade is the Australian government trade commission for Australian exporters and information for companies wanting to do business with Australia. ASWGA provides assistance in international market development activities.
